AWARDS: Abufera de Alquitrán

Second place scholarship award recipient for the Berklee Songs for Social Change contest. Among 112 submissions, selected by ten faculty judges at Berklee College of Music. Performed on April 16th 2026 in the Red Room. Choreographer: Kena Ruiz Ransom. Additional Dancers: Honor Minors and Avianna Gold.

Albufera de Alquitrán was inspired by an event that occurred on July of 2024 in the shores of El Saler (Valencia, Spain), where 2Km of tar were found, threatening the biodiversity of the Albufera, a rich natural park in Valencia. The song reflects on our absurd obsession with self destruction as humans.
